Valencia College has opened up a training center for the sole purpose of preparing students for careers in technology. This program is helping the leaders of tomorrow achieve their goals at a faster rate. This center currently has 84 students but is expected to hold more than 200 students in the near future.

This facility will help young adults and students achieve their career objectives in the future. Potential college students can perceive Valencia as an option when applying for schools because there is something new that may appeal to them. This is quite spectacular for students looking into a future with high technology.

Director of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center Micheal Kepner explains the reasoning behind the program.

Q: “What are you trying to achieve with this center and what it has to offer?”

A: The Valencia College Advanced Manufacturing Training Center offers students an education based on career-relevant technical instruction with extensive hands-on training.  Our goal is for each student to earn applicable industry certifications which result in a career in the manufacturing industry.

Our programs are accelerated, 10-22 weeks in length depending on the program, but are designed to provide students with successful outcomes because we have developed our curriculum through collaboration with industry partners.  Currently, we offer four programs in Advanced Manufacturing: Electronic Board Assembly, Computer Numeric Control Machining, two courses in welding and Mechatronics.

Q: How successful is the center so far?

A: Our center was opened in February of 2016 and our enrollment numbers have grown every year.  This past academic year we enrolled 213 students – our most ever for an academic year.  One hundred ninety-eight students successfully completed their program of instruction.  Additionally, we have been able to place above 80% of all students into a new high-skill, high-wage, high-demand career field after graduating from the program.

Q: What does a student need in order to attend this program?”

A: To start the program, we encourage all potential students to either schedule a facility visit with our Recruiting Team or attend an Open House.  Our open houses are held every Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and can be scheduled with the recruiting team. Interested students simply have to submit an online application and complete an entry-level test in order to be accepted into the manufacturing programs.

Q: Do you have any advice for these students in my high school, and every high school who want a future in technology?

A: Advanced Manufacturing is an incredibly exciting field to enter and start a new career.  There are so many opportunities in the manufacturing career field right now. Last July, Central Florida was recognized by Forbes online as the fastest growing market for manufacturing job growth in the country.  I would encourage every student to visit the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center to learn more about the programs and the amazing career opportunities available today.
