The students at Poinciana are competing – whether they realize it or not – to win free homecoming tickets.

Dubbed the “Attendance Wars”, the attendance rates for entire grade levels are being tallied and the grade that scores the lowest percentage of absences will get free tickets to the homecoming dance later this month.

The homecoming dance is Oct. 21. Tickets are $10.

So far in Poinciana history throughout the district our attendance has been very low. The ultimate goal is to improve our school wide attendance and not be last in our district, assistant principal Stephen Darago said.

“I’m really excited about this competition, and I think the freshman are taking this one,” said Darago.

Freshman Josue Rodriguez agrees with Darago.

“I think the freshmen are going to win because we are more worried about school and after school activates and involved with school things” said Rodriguez.

Freshman are currently in first place.

The theme for this year’s dance is fire and Ice.

Students who have disciplinary actions or do not meet GPA requirements will not receive free tickets.
