The Eagles will enter their third game next week as a team that remains undefeated – a feat that hasn’t been accomplished in the school’s history.

With a 28-20 victory against Whittier Christian High School Thursday and a win in their season opener earlier this month, the Eagles remain undefeated, 2-0.

The game Thursday against Whittier Christian, a California school, was part of an 18-game championship at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

The Eagles were dubbed one of the championship teams and received a trophy – another first, as no football team has nabbed a trophy for the school’s trophy case.

“When the announcer presented the trophy, I thought our boys were going to run her over,” said Ken Knapcyzk, who is the head football coach.

The Eagles entered the record books as the first Poinciana football team since 2013 to win back-to-back wins.

Knapcyzk said the two wins are crucial going into next week’s match against Mulberry High School, and then the Battle of the Boulevard the following week, which is against cross town rival Liberty High.

“We’ve never won Battle of the Boulevard, but this year is going to be different,” Knapcyzk said.

This is Knapcyzk’s third year as head football coach, and he said that a plan he put into place three years ago is beginning to take hold.

“If the team needs an alpha, I’m always ready to answer the call,” said Nay’Drell Gordon, who is a star defense player.

Poinciana will travel to Mulberry High next Friday. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
